Beta-carotene: an important provitamin A TEST

Beta-carotene is a precursor to vitamin A and is therefore also called pro-vitamin A. The conversion of beta carotene to vitamin A takes place in the liver, kidneys and intestinal mucosa. Beta-carotene is found in yellow and orange fruits and vegetables. It is (partly) responsible for the color. In addition, beta-carotene is found in cabbages and in dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach.

Beta-carotene plays a role for the retina and is essential for good vision.
