Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Our body uses uv light from the sun to produce vitamin D, so strictly speaking vitamin D is not a vitamin.
The main function of vitamin D is to regulate the serum calcium and phosphorus concentrations. Vitamin D improves the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the intestines. In case of vitamin D deficiency, only 10% to 15% of calcium is absorbed. With adequate presence of vitamin D, calcium absorption increases by up to 30% to 40%.

Vitamin D plays an important role for many more body processes:

  • is important for normal muscle function
  • is good for the cell division process
  • also ensures good resistance
  • plays a role in calcium management
  • is necessary for normal growth and development of children’s bones
  • increases the absorption of lime in the bones
  • supports children’s immune systems
  • contributes to strong teeth
  • Vitamin D helps to reduce the risks of falls, due to posture instability and muscle weakness. Falling is a risk factor for bone fractures in men and women over the age of 60. (at least 15 micrograms of vitamin D per daily serving)
