Mold (usually trychophytin) grows optimally in a warm, pH acidic, moist, dark environment, with little circulation, and feeds on sugars and carbohydrates. A fungus leaves growth spores to reproduce and is contagious.

What is a fungal nail?
A fungal nail is a nail that is affected by a fungal infection and is often thickened and discolored. Popularly, a fungal nail is often called chalk nail , the medical term is Onychomycosis. This medical term is a combination of the Latin word for nail (‘onycho’) and fungus (‘mycosis’).
A fungal nail usually occurs on a toe, sometimes on your fingers Often the color is white-yellow, sometimes green or brown. In addition, the nails can be friable. They are ugly to look at and with nail scissors you can hardly get through them.
Due to a reduced resistance, bacteria, parasites and viruses can manifest themselves on and around the nail.
How do fungal nails form?
Mold (usually trychophytin) grows optimally in a warm, pH acidic, moist, dark environment, with little circulation, and feeds on sugars and carbohydrates. A fungus leaves growth spores to reproduce and is contagious.
There, the fungus ‘eats’ into the hard layer and is quite stubborn and difficult to combat. A fungal nail is caused by a trychofytin infection and starts at the free nail edge. From there, the fungus grows in the nail plate to the base of the nail. The nail plate often looks a bit chalky: discolored (yellow-brown), dull and friable. The length growth of the nail is inhibited and the consequence of this is that the thickness of the nail increases. The nail may even become loose, while under the nail there is an accumulation of nail substance.
When the nail is infected by a fungus, an infection can spread with bacteria, parasites and viruses.
What can you do to get rid of fungal nails?
minimize growth and living conditions for fungi:
-eat healthy and reduce sugar and carbohydrate intake and pay attention to PH balance.
-minimize environment with high humidity.
-avoid moist and warm environment
-fungus is contagious so good hygiene is important:

-be careful with chemical agents with artificial nails
-consider fighting fungi from the inside out with supplements, to optimize your calcium balance and immune system.
